Oral History

I received this email about colloborating on doing some oral histories. This is great news as we have this as a goal for the museum.

Rose Mary Graveline, who as you probably know is one of the co-chairs of the Living History Day organizing committee, suggested that I contact you about our project to create an oral history of soldiers who were stationed at the Fort in its long history.  I am an oral historian who is organizing this project, and we're trying to get the word out to veterans in the area who would like to be interviewed. On Living History Day, we will be interviewing people in Ellie Long Center, and people can drop in during the day, but if possible, I would like to hear from people ahead of time to arrange for interviews before and after the event, when we can perhaps take more time to hear their stories. Would you consider putting out an announcement on your web page about this project?  We would like to preserve these memories and stories for future generations to know the history of the fort and of its soldiers. People can email me at this address, or call me at these numbers:

Thank you very much for your help,

Walt Houton is the oral history "expect" at the museum right now, so I suggested he may want to get involved. The project would be happy to share the histories with the museum for their library collection.

Also, they would like to donate some WWII letters…

I would like to donate the collection of WWII letters of one of the highest ranking women in the WAC, which I helped her edit for publication in 2004, if you think that it would fit in the library.

You may already have this book: it's called "An Officer and a Lady: The World War II Letters of Lt. Colonel Betty Bandel, Women's Army Corps." General Rainville came and spoke at the book celebration in the UVM library, Special Collections, where I work.  But if you don't, I'd be happy to donate a copy or two.
